COVID19 Update: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced that the students from nursery to class 8th in the state will be promoted to next class without examinations under the no detention policy.

New Delhi:

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced that under the no detention policy all the students from nursery to class 8th in the state will be directly promoted to next class without examination. Mr Sisodia, who is also education minister, said that the government will begin online classes of two subjects for the students who are about to enter Class 12. Regarding the promotion of Class 9 to Class 11 students, the minister said a decision will be taken after the consultation with CBSE.

Mr Sisodia said that exams of up to class 8 could not be held due to the recent violence in northeast Delhi which was followed by the COVID19 pandemic.

In a joint digital press conference with CM Arvind Kejriwal, Mr. Sisodia also announced that the students who are registering for the online classes will be given monetary benefits for buying data packs.

The online classes for Class 12 students will begin from the first week of April and after sometime, the same will be organised for Class 10 students, the minister said.

According to the education minister, from now onwards through SMS and IVR a daily activity will be started for the students, and they will have to keep the activity details on a notebook as a project.

He also said that “When the schools get open, the teachers will check these project and the students will be given its weightage,”.

Across Delhi all Schools and educational institutions has been closed due to the all India lock-down announced last week by PM Modi.
